Kerry Meier out for the season

The Atlanta Falcons placed former Kansas wide receiver Kerry Meier on the injured reserved list Friday night, ending his season completely.

Meier, a fifth-round draft pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, suffered a knee injury during the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s pre-season game against the New England Patriots.

The Kansas native from Pittsburg, was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and was on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List in 2009.

Meier finished his career at Kansas with the following school records:

  • 1st in Career receptions – 226
  • 1st in Season Receptions – 102
  • 1st in Game receptions
  • 2nd in receiving yards – 2,309
  • 2nd in 100-yard receiving games – 10
  • 2nd in touchdown receptions – 18

Last season, Meier ranked fourth in the NCAA with 8.5 receptions per game and 26th in receiving yards per game (82.08).

Meier was having a promising pre-season for Atlanta and ESPN had reported last week that the Falcons were “quietly excited” about what they saw from him during camp. He took reps at all three receiver slots and to no surprise to Kansas fans, one team official said he’d yet to drop a pass.

Hopefully for Meier this isn’t a incredibly serious injury and he’ll be able to contribute to the Falcons next season. I know many KU fans were excited about him going to the Falcons because they’re a team on the rise and show a lot of promise with Matt Ryan under center.
