Joel Embiid may sit due to tweaked back injury; Tharpe dislocated thumb

Joel Embiid and Naadir Tharpe were both hurt in Saturday’s loss against Oklahoma State. Joel Embiid tweaked his back during the second half while Naadir Tharpe dislocated his thumb.

Joel Embiid, who was visibly limping after the loss on Saturday, may miss some time, according to Bill Self.

“He was really sore today,” Self told the Journal-World on Sunday.

Embiid tweaked his back with about five minutes left in the game on Saturday and left the game to do stretches. While Embiid returned to the game, he clearly struggled with the injury. According to the Journal-World, he shed a few tears talking to a parent of a KU player before boarding the team bus.

“We haven’t made a decision (about sitting Embiid),” Self told the Journal-World. “We’ll probably make a decision on Monday after visiting with doctors.”

Embiid wasn’t the only Jayhawk banged up in the loss either.

Naadir Tharpe dislocated his left thumb in the game, as first reported by the Kansas City Star.

“I know Naadir’s thumb was sore (Sunday),” Self told the Journal-World. “It shouldn’t be anything to keep him out of play, though.”
