Lots of recruiting updates today so let’s get to it.
Bill Self and Jerrance Howard met with Malik Newman today. Newman is the No. 1 player in the Class of 2015. Newman, who is from Mississippi, is considering Alabama, Kentucky, Arizona, UNC, UCLA and Mississippi State.
The 6-foot-3 shooting guard hasn’t set a timetable on when he will commit but most recruiting services are expecting Malik to go with Kentucky.
Perhaps Bill Self will change his mind.
Myles Turner is currently at the Nike Hoops Summit in Portland, Oregon. Cliff Alexander and Kelly Oubre are also at the Hoops Summit.
Many believe that now that Joel Embiid has left for the NBA Draft, Turner will go to Kansas. With Turner on the Jayhawks, I expect KU to be a preseason top three pick by most publications.
Not only that, but I bet KU fans won’t really miss Embiid on next year’s squad. Turner is that good. I believe Turner is just as good of a shot blocker and he’s more polished coming in. I see him starting under Self from day one.
Anyways, Turner said at the McDonald’s All-American game that he’ll talk to his parents after the Nike Hoops Summit to decide on a school. I expect Turner to announce by end of next week or early in the week after that (April 21st).
Tacko Fall went viral today as this video below was released:
Fall is 7-foot-5 and only a junior. The tallest player in the NBA is Hasheem Thabeet at 7-foot-3.
He can dunk without even going tiptoe. Baylor is interested in him right now but I’m sure he’ll get some other offers soon. I wouldn’t mind seeing him at KU because you can’t teach being tall.
He’s also got an incredible nickname: “Taco.” So he’ll be a fan favorite, for sure.
But his last name should be “Tall” not Fall.
Yesterday, Devonte Graham was released from his scholarship at Appalachian State. Kansas appears to be the leader at this point.
Graham is a point guard out of Brewster Academy. Sound familiar? Naadir Tharpe and Thomas Robinson also went to Brewster.
Graham would be a huge get for Bill Self as he is a top 50 point guard in this year’s class and he’s the highest ranked available guard. Kansas and Self are in need of another point guard. If Kansas can land Turner and Graham, KU will have a very very good incoming class.
Self as well as some other coaches will watch Graham at Brewster on Friday. Other schools interested in Graham include Virginia, Nebraska, Providence, N.C. State, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati and Florida.
