It’s not really news to KU fans that Joel Embiid has been compared to Hakeem Olajuwon, one of the greatest players of all-time.
Throughout the season, commentators and even Bill Self talked about how similar Olajuwon and Embiid were, both in their playing style and skillset.
Self reiterated that Thursday night at the draft:
“They’re very fair, I said that all along and people thought I was nuts. “You watch him and watch his footwork and how effortlessly he moves, I think they’re very fair comparisons…
He has unbelievable basketball IQ. He has a natural way he goes about it, he has 10 different ways to get into you every move, so one move is really 10 moves to him. He’s a very fluid player and that’s why people are so excited about him.”
Obviously the one thing holding Embiid back right now is his foot, which was repaired last Friday. Embiid will have to sit out 4-6 months and could miss the entire 2014-15 NBA Season.
