Jayhawks in the NBA

Chalmers, Pierce and Hinrich sign contracts

Three former Jayhawks are no longer free agents as Mario Chalmers (re-signed with the Heat), Paul Pierce (signed with the Wizards) and Kirk Hinrich (re-signed with the Bulls) all inked deals this weekend.

After Aldrich and Arthur re-signed with their teams, the only Jayhawks left in free agency left are Xavier Henry and Drew Gooden.

Mario Chalmers returns to Miami

Chalmers re-signed with the Heat on Sunday, signing a two-year contract. Chalmers, who has spent his entire career with Miami, is a six-year NBA veteran.

Chalmers announced his return on Twitter:

Chalmers was traded to the Miami Heat on the night of the 2008 NBA Draft after getting selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round. As a rookie, he started all 82 games and averaged 10 points and 4.9 assists per game. The last four seasons, Chalmers has started 242 games for the Heat as Miami won four straight Eastern Conference championships (aka the LeBron James in Miami era). Despite having a lackluster 2014 NBA Finals performance, the Heat remain confident he can be a starting point guard for their team. It’s good news for Chalmers as he’s now on third NBA contract.

Paul Pierce joins Washington

Paul Pierce played his first 15 years in the NBA with the Boston Celtics. Now after spending a season with the Brooklyn Nets, Pierce is headed to his third NBA team — the Washington Wizards.

Pierce signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Wizards after not even receiving an offer from Brooklyn.

Pierce was traded to Brooklyn last season in an effort for the Celtics to get younger and acquire draft picks for the future. The future Hall of Famer is probably on his last contract in the NBA.

The Wizards players seem thrilled to add the Truth.

John Wall tweeted out the following:

Pierce tweeted this:

Pierce will replace Trevor Ariza’s role on the Wizards and will most likely serve as mentors to Bradley Beal and John Wall before retiring.

Kirk Hinrich headed back to Chicago

Kirk Hinrich was drafted No. 7 overall by the Chicago Bulls and played there until 2010. After stints with Washington and Atlanta, Hinrich returns to the Bulls in 2012.

Now Hinrich will spend two more years in Chicago after he signed a two-year, $5.6 million contract.

Hinrich is now up to about $65 million in earnings since 2003. Not bad for a player who said he wouldn’t have a position to play in the League when he left college.
