Naadir Tharpe drafted by L.A. D-Fenders in D-League Draft

Naadir Tharpe was drafted in the second round of the NBA D-League Draft on Saturday by the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Tharpe was the eighth pick in the second round and 26th overall.

The D-Fenders are the minor league affiliate for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Tharpe left the University of Kansas in May due to personal reasons regarding his daughter. In a release by Kansas Athletics, Tharpe said he wanted to transfer closer to his daughter. During the summer, Tharpe went from looking to find somewhere to play his final collegiate season to looking overseas to play before deciding in early July he would turn pro and enter the D-League Draft.

Naadir Tharpe averaged 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.1 turnovers and 5 assists per game last season, was expected to be the starting point guard next season as a senior.

Tharpe seems thrilled to be a part of the D-Fenders, as it means he is one step away from playing for his dream organization:

There were several former Big 12 players selected in the draft, which lasted eight rounds and consisted of 122 picks. Brady Heslip of Baylor was selected 11th overall and was the first Big 12 player off the board.
