An Introduction from the Inside the Paint Podcast

Hello, and greetings from podcast land!

My name is Ryan Landreth. I’m a sophomore at MidAmerica Nazarene University, and a die-hard fan of all Kansas Jayhawks sports. My fandom of the men’s basketball team eventually led to me starting a podcast covering the team through MNU’s radio program, and “Inside the Paint” was born in January of 2014.

The show quickly caught on thanks to interviews from local Kansas City sports personalities, including radio hosts Bob Fescoe and Danny Parkins, Jack Harry of 41 Action News, and Myron Metcalf of ESPN. The show climbed into the top five sports podcasts on its hosting site, Podomatic, and was featured numerous times on the front page of the iTunes music store.

I’m introducing myself because it was recently decided that Rock Chalk Blog would be hosting the Inside the Paint podcast. I’m thrilled that I’m now a member of the Rock Chalk Blog team; I’ll be posting our shows on the website to get everybody caught up on the latest with Kansas, the Big 12, and the top 25.

We do shows before and after each Kansas game, spending the bulk of the time recapping and previewing the games of focus for the Jayhawks. We also spend a few minutes each show discussing other games around the Big 12, and a pinch of time focusing on national storylines in the top 25. While we’ll be sure to mention it when Kentucky finally loses, the primary focus of the show is exactly what this blog is crazy about – Kansas basketball.

I’m posting this because I ultimately want to hear from you, the readers of Rock Chalk Blog. I have three questions that I’d love to hear some of you answer:

  1. For you to listen to a Kansas basketball podcast, what are some of the things that you would like to be included?
  2. Are you only interested in listening to content about Kansas, or are you also interested in hearing bits and pieces about other games/stories in the Big 12 and the top 25?
  3. If you have listened to Inside the Paint before, what are some of the things that you think should be kept or changed to further improve the fit on Rock Chalk Blog?

I know that some of you are listeners and subscribers to the show, but for those of you who haven’t heard Inside the Paint yet, you can check out our most recent show here, where we recap the victory over Rider and preview the Orlando Classic tournament: http://insidethepaint.podomatic.com/entry/2014-11-25T10_07_30-08_00

My cohosts, Daniel Cunningham and Joshua Brisco, and I are all tremendously excited about the opportunity that we’re being presented with. Rock Chalk Blog gives us an opportunity to expand our audience and acquire more feedback on how we can ultimately become better journalists. We’re in this for the experience – we enjoy Kansas basketball and love to talk about it, and we’re all trying to make the best show we can.

Follow us on Twitter at @ryan_landreth, @DC4213, and @jbbrisco, check out or Facebook page, and always let us know what you like or dislike about a certain show!

Thank you, and Rock Chalk!

Ryan Landreth

I’m a recent graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University. In addition to writing for Rock Chalk Blog, I host the Inside the Paint podcast that covers KU basketball, and I write for Royals Review in the summer. My grandma has had season tickets to Jayhawk basketball for 30 years, and I have the privilege of going to most games with her.
