100 Facts About the 2014-15 Kansas Jayhawks (Part 2)

The 2014-15 Kansas Jayhawks season featured ups, downs, and everything in between. The Jayhawks won their 11th straight Big 12 title, but the season ended too soon when KU was bounced in the first weekend of the NCAA tournament. As we turn the page on the 2015 squad, we look back on 100 facts about the team, from player stats to record-breaking performances, monumental comebacks and epic collapses, and all-time thrills and major heartbreak.

51. Wayne Selden had as many turnovers (74) as Frank Mason did in 147 less minutes.

52. Wayne Selden has 75 points in five career Big 12 tournament games. He has 11 points in four career NCAA tournament games.

53. Wayne Selden ended the year shooting 37% from three. He started 43/100 (43%) in the first 25 games, and then went 3/26 (12%) in the last 12.

54. Brannen Greene ended the year shooting 40% from three. He started 34/65 (52%) in the first 24 games, and then went 6/34 (18%) in the last 11.

55. Kelly Oubre ended the year shooting 36% from three. He started 29/73 (40%) in the first 26 games, and then went 5/22 (23%) in the last 10.

56. After Bill Self’s “fool’s gold” comment about three-pointers, the Jayhawks shot 27% from long range (35/129).

57. Kelly Oubre tied KU’s freshman record for free throws made (15) and free throws attempted (19) in a single game on 3/12 against TCU, matching Andrew Wiggins’ 15-19 line from 3/8/14 against West Virginia.

58. All 15 members on the 2014-15 roster scored this season for Kansas, including all four walk-ons.

59. The walk-ons (Evan Manning, Tyler Self, Josh Pollard, Christian Garrett) were a combined 5-18 (28%) from the floor, 1-6 (17%) from three, with 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 turnovers in 66 minutes.

60. Bench points for KU in the last six NCAA tournament losses: Wichita State 21, Stanford 19, Michigan 12, Kentucky 0, VCU 3, Northern Iowa 11.

61. As a whole, the 2014-15 Jayhawks shot 869/1976 for a shooting percentage of 44%.

62. That’s the worst mark in the Bill Self era.

63. The Jayhawks were 656/1414 (46%) on two-point shots this season.

64. That’s the worst mark in the Bill Self era.

65. The Jayhawks were 213/562 (38%) from three-point range this season.

66. That’s the best mark in the Bill Self era.

67. Kansas’ 44.0% FG mark is the team’s worst since the 1972-73 season. The Jayhawks had an 8-18 record that year. That was 42 years ago.

68. On March 19 against New Mexico State, the Jayhawks shot 69% from three-point range (9/13). That’s the best percentage in a single game for Kansas since November 1996.

69. The Jayhawks shot 72% from the free throw line, which is the best mark since the 2008-09 season.

70. It’s the fifth straight season that Kansas has improved its free-throw percentage: 68% 2011, 69% 2012, 70.9% 2013, 71% 2014.

71. Kansas’ 71.1 points per game are easily the lowest in the Bill Self era, with the next closest being the 73.5 points scored by the 2011-12 team.

72. The Jayhawks scored 2561 points this season. Perry Ellis scored 469 (18.2%), Frank Mason had 452 (17.6%), Wayne Selden recorded 339 (13.2%), and Kelly Oubre logged 333 (13.0%).

73. Kansas’ 64.8 points against per game is the fourth-worst mark in the Bill Self era after 2014 (70.1), 2005 (65.2), and 2004 (67.2).

74. As a team, the Jayhawks snagged 1364 rebounds in 2014-15, second worst in the Bill Self era after only 2013-14 (1336).

75. The Jayhawks’ best offensive rebounding output was 16 on March 7 against Oklahoma. KU’s top two rebounders, Perry Ellis and Cliff Alexander, did not play in that game.

76. The Jayhawks’ top blocked shots output was 10 on February 28 against Texas. KU’s top shot blocker, Cliff Alexander, did not play in that game.

77. That also occurred against the #1 team at blocking shots in college basketball.

78. For the first time since 2008-09, the Jayhawks were not ranked higher than #5 at any point in the season.

79. For the sixth consecutive season, the Jayhawks were ranked every week in the AP poll.

80. Of the nine games the Jayhawks lost, they led by at least seven points in five of them.

81. Bench minutes for KU in the last six NCAA tournament losses: Wichita State 69, Stanford 70, Michigan 52, Kentucky 31, VCU 32, Northern Iowa 53.

82. In the last six NCAA tournament losses, the Kansas bench has played just 26% (307 of 1,200 minutes) of the time.

83. The seven likely one-and-done players at Kansas: Xavier Henry, Josh Selby, Ben McLemore, Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, Cliff Alexander, and Kelly Oubre, combined to play in 8 NCAA tournament wins.

84. Iowa State’s Georges Niang scored 58 points against Kansas this year, most of any college player.

85. Niang’s 59 points against KU last year were also the most of any college player.

86. Bill Self has still never been swept by a Big 12 team in league play.

87. 2015 was the first time in Bill Self’s tenure that he lost in a road arena for the second consecutive year (Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Kansas State)

88. In the 60 year history of Allen Fieldhouse, there have been only three KU comebacks of 18 or more points.

89. Two of those three occurred this season. (Florida, Oklahoma)

90. Had the West Virginia comeback not occurred, the Big 12 would have ended in a four-way tie at 12-6.

91. Kansas won the Big 12 for the 11th straight season in 2015, but six of the last seven titles have now been won outright.

92. The Jayhawks were 16-0 at home in 2015, 5-6 in road games, and 6-3 at neutral sites.

93. KU was 10-0 against teams from Texas this season, but just 1-2 against other Kansas schools.

94. Kansas lost two games this season on a game-winning shot in the last 0:05 for the first time in the Bill Self era.

95. 2015 was the first time that a Bill Self KU team had multiple games without a three-point field goal (West Virginia, TCU).

96. For the first time since 2010, the Jayhawks did not win any of the five major Big 12 individual awards.

97. Bill Self won AP Big 12 coach of the year for a record fourth time.

98. The Jayhawks were the only power-conference team to have multiple games without a three-pointer this season.

99. In a six-game stretch from February 23 to March 13, the Jayhawks made 11 of 69 three-point shots. That is 16%.

100. Kansas allowed 40 or more points in the paint three times this year. All three occasions came against Iowa State.
