100 Stats about the 2016 Kansas Jayhawks (Part 1)

The 2015-16 Kansas Jayhawks followed up a tremendously successful regular season with a deep NCAA tournament run. Ultimately, the ride ended just shy of a coveted Final Four appearance, but KU’s overall year should be thought of as a success. As we turn the page on the 2016 squad, we look back on 100 stats about the team, from record-breaking performances to soul-crushing blows.

1. Perry Ellis finished his season with 641 points, which led the team.

2. This is the most points any Jayhawk has had in a single season since Thomas Robinson (692) and Tyshawn Taylor (647) in 2012.

3. Perry Ellis’ 237 made field goals are the most by any Kansas player in a single season since Thomas Robinson’s 261 in 2012.

4. Perry Ellis jumped from 38th place to 8th place on the all-time Jayhawk scoring list in his senior season.

5. Of all Kansas players that played their entire collegiate careers under Bill Self, Perry Ellis’ 1,798 career points are the second highest total, after only Sherron Collins (1,888).

6. Despite playing 172 more minutes this year, Perry Ellis had 12 fewer rebounds than he did in 2015.

7. Perry Ellis, Wayne Selden, and Frank Mason all scored at least three points in every one of Kansas’ 38 games this year.

8. Perry Ellis, Frank Mason and Devonte’ Graham all played at least 20 minutes in every one of Kansas’ 38 games this year.

9. Double-doubles, this season:
Perry Ellis: 3
Landen Lucas: 3
Frank Mason: 1

10. Kansas has combined for 10 double-doubles in the last two seasons. Joel Embiid had eight by himself in 2013-14.

11. As a team, Kansas scored 81.3 points per game, the second-highest mark of the Bill Self era (81.6 points per game in 2010).

12. Kansas allowed 67.6 points this year, which is also the second-highest mark of the Bill Self era (70.1 points per game allowed in 2014).

13. The Jayhawks went 15-2 in games decided by 10 points or fewer this year.

14. Kansas’ record in games decided by 10 points or fewer:
2015-16: 15-2
2014-15: 16-7
2013-14: 10-8

15. Cheick Diallo, 2015-16: 81 points, 68 rebounds, and 23 blocks in 202 minutes.
Cliff Alexander, 2014-15: 199 points, 148 rebounds, and 37 blocks in 492 minutes.

16. Cheick Diallo scored just eight more points all season (81) than Perry Ellis did in KU’s four NCAA tournament games (73).

17. Areas where Wayne Selden improved this season: minutes played, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, and rebounds, assists, steals, fouls committed, turnovers, and points per game.

18. Areas where Wayne Selden regressed this season: free-throw percentage and blocks per game.

19. By January 23, Wayne Selden had already set a new career-high for most three-pointers made in a season.

20. Selden ended the year with 74 made three-pointers, which was one behind Devonte’ Graham’s team-leading 75.

21. Wayne Selden Two-pointers:
2015: 66/167 (39%) – 101 misses.
2016: 115/210 (55%) – 90 misses.

22. Despite taking 43 more two-point baskets in 2016, Selden missed 11 fewer two-point shots than he did in 2015.

23. Wayne Selden shot just 48% on free throws (22/46) in conference play.

24. Wayne Selden in 14 career games outside the continental United State: 16.8 PPG, 88/166 FG (53.3% FG). That’s eight games in Korea, three in Atlantis, and three in Maui.

25. Wayne Selden’s 12 made field goals against Kentucky are the most for any Jayhawk player since Elijah Johnson’s 13 in his Iowa State “hero” game.

26. Against Chaminade on November 23, Kansas scored 123 points, which is the most in the Bill Self era.

27. That’s the most points Kansas has scored in a game since 1997.

28. Kansas basketball scored 109 points against Oklahoma on January 4.
Kansas football scored 108 points in conference play all season.

29. Oklahoma’s 106 points in that game are the most ever by a visiting team in Allen Fieldhouse.

30. 44.8% of Kansas’ total points this year were scored by the junior class (Selden, Mason, Lucas, Greene, and Self).

31. 26.5% of the team’s total points were scored by the senior class (Ellis, Traylor, Mickelson, Manning).

32. 20.1% were scored by sophomores (Graham, Mykhailiuk, Young).

33. Just 8.6% were scored by freshmen (Bragg, Diallo, Vick).

34. That’s the lowest percentage of the team’s total points scored by freshmen since 2012.

35. Kansas put together two undefeated calendar months this season (7-0 in December and 9-0 in February). It hadn’t completed a perfect calendar month since January 2013.

36. The Jayhawks went undefeated in a calendar month of conference play for the first time since January 2010.

37. Kansas’ road win at Oklahoma on February 13 marked the first time in more than two calendar years where the Jayhawks won a conference road game outside the state of Texas (January 13, 2014 at Iowa State). They had lost 11 straight combined road games against Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and West Virginia.

38. KU’s 15-3 mark in conference play is the best record by any Big 12 team since the 2012 Jayhawks went 16-2.

39. KU’s 33 wins are the most by any Big 12 team since the 2011 Jayhawks went 35-3.

40. KU won the Big 12 tournament for the 10th time. That’s as many as the other 13 schools that have participated in at least one Big 12 tournament have put together.

41. Kansas won the Maui Invitational for the first time since 1996.

42. Kansas’ senior class went 61-2 inside Allen Fieldhouse.

43. Kansas has won 40 straight games at Allen Fieldhouse, which is the longest active streak in college basketball.

44. Scott Drew and Bill Self have both lost nine games in Allen Fieldhouse in their careers.

45. Scott Drew has coached nine games in Allen Fieldhouse. Bill Self has coached 215.

46. Bill Self has three more consecutive regular-season conference titles than he does home losses in his career at Kansas.

47. Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield scored 70 points against Kansas this year in just two games, which was the most by any one player against the Jayhawks.

48. Iowa State’s Georges Niang concludes his career having scored 206 points in the 11 games he played against Kansas. This is the most by any one player against the Jayhawks in the modern-day era of KU basketball.

49. After going 2-0 against Texas Tech this year, the Jayhawks have won 13 straight games against the Red Raiders, which is the longest active winning streak by one Big 12 team against a conference foe.

50. Carlton Bragg, freshman year, per-40 minutes: 17.0 points, 11.1 rebounds, 56% from the floor.
Perry Ellis, freshman year, per-40 minutes: 17.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 48% from the floor.
