Week 4 of college basketball brought with it lots of movement within Landen and I’s power rankings. Here is this week’s breakdown:
If it isn’t clear enough now, Baylor and Gonzaga are just on another level right now. Both teams are incredibly loaded with talent. Really wish they could’ve gotten to play each other.
KU secured a one point win in what will most likely be their third hardest road game in conference play at Texas Tech. It’s so odd to rank them this high because they don’t always play the flashiest, yet their resume supports this ranking. We still feel like this team is no where near their potential, and yet they are ranked 3…which is scary for the the rest of the Big 12.
Iowa lost to Gonzaga despite a monster performance from Luka Garza. Gonzaga is just that good.
- West Virginia
West Virginia has a big opportunity to move up in our rankings if they can knock off the Jayhawks in AFH Tuesday night.
- Michigan State
Michigan State had an ugly loss to Northwestern. They fell to #12 in the AP poll, but we feel like this was more of a flukey game than anything else.
Ahh yes, the Tigers seem to be finally relevant again in college hoops. They knocked off Illinois this past week and had already beaten an Oregon team that was ranked #21 at the time. Time will tell if they stay hot.
- Texas Tech
There’s no shame in losing by one to the third best team. We still feel like Texas Tech is top 15 team, but just barely.
Yep, that’s right! Rutgers is 6-0 with a great win over Illinois this past week. They take on #23 Ohio State this week, which will be a good test to see if this team is actually legit.
Biggest Faller: Illinois
Illinois has hit a bit of a rough patch lately. They’ve lost to Rutgers, Missouri, and Baylor, and they barely got by an average Ohio team. Their only good win was against Duke. They are still a top 25 team, but they don’t make the cut for our top 15 this week.
Biggest Riser: Missouri
The rankings said it best. Missouri has come out of nowhere and is looking solid.
Mid-Major to Watch: VCU
This was a hard choice this week as not a lot of mid-majors have stood out. VCU is sitting at 6-2 and just about all of their wins have been blowouts. Their two loses are to West Virginia and Penn State. They don’t have a terribly hard schedule the rest of the way, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the Rams.
And that’s our rankings for this week! If you enjoy this content be sure to leave a comment with your opinions and thoughts! We enjoy reading them when we see them!
