2013 Big 12 Power Poll: Week 10
1. Baylor – Previous Week: 1
Result: Bye week
Big game against Oklahoma on Thursday night. Could essentially make or break a national championship season for the Bears.
Next week: Oklahoma
2. Oklahoma State – Previous Week: 2
Result: Win vs. Texas Tech, 52-34
A win this week ensures the Cowboys stay in the No. 2 spot. The winner of Oklahoma-Baylor on Thursday night will automatically go to No. 1 in the rankings. The Cowboys still looked impressive last week with a big win over Texas Tech.
Next week: Kansas
3. Oklahoma – Previous Week: 3
Result: Bye week
Big win for the Sooners. They’re hitting their stride now. A win on Thursday could mean back-to-back Big 12 Championships.
Next week: Baylor
4. Texas – Previous Week: 5
Result: Win vs. Kansas, 35-13
Texas started off slow but their defense stepped up against an anemic KU offense that showed some life at one point. They’re sitting at No. 4 in the rankings but they’re undefeated in the Big 12. A win vs. West Virginia doesn’t prove much but it keeps them in the hunt for the Big 12 championship… which is all that matters.
Next week: at West Virginia
5. Texas Tech – Previous Week: 4
Result: Loss vs. Oklahoma State, 52-34
Tough back-to-back losses for the Red Raiders. If they can’t get back on track vs. K-State this week, they might drop below into the bottom half of the standings.
Next week: Kansas State
6. TCU – Previous Week: 6
Result: Loss vs. West Virginia, 30-27
Another tough loss this week for the Horned Frogs. They can certainly bounce back next week against Iowa State.
Next Week: at Iowa State
7. Kansas State – Previous Week: 7
Result: Win vs. Iowa State, 41-7
Two straight wins for the Wildcats. Will a third happen in Lubbock? I don’t think so.
Next week: at Texas Tech
8. West Virginia – Previous Week: 8
Result: Win at TCU, 30-27
The Mountaineers definitely bounced back this week. A win against Texas would be huge but unexpected at this point.
Next week: Texas
9. Kansas – Previous Week: 9
Previous Week: Loss vs. Texas, 35-13
The Jayhawks were in it until the third quarter and then a key fumble that led to a touchdown turned into a complete meltdown. The defense looked good up until that turnover by the KU offense. It just didn’t matter after that.
Kansas has another tough task against the Cowboys this week. Good news is that KU then plays the other Big 12 teams that are really bad following this week. If they can win their final four games, they can make a bowl game. Jake Heaps pointed that out after the loss at Texas.
Next week: Oklahoma State
10. Iowa State – Previous Week: 10
Result: Loss vs. Kansas State, 41-7
The Cyclones couldn’t get it done against K-State this week. Good news is that they’re facing a struggling TCU team this week.
Next week: TCU
