Jayhawks drop second game in NCAA tournament to Cardinals, 6-3
Errors derailed Kansas’ quest to start the NCAA tournament with two wins on Saturday as they lost to Louisville, 6-3. The Jayhawks fell behind 5-0 in the fourth inning after the Jayhawks committed three errors that led to two of the Cardinals runs.
The Jayhawks recorded only six hits while giving up 11. Kansas’ starting pitcher, Frank Duncan, went the distance, giving up all 6 runs, four of which were earned. He walked one while striking out two Cardinals.
“I didn’t think it (our offensive approach) was very good,” Kansas head coach Ritch Price said. “That was the one thing I addressed with our guys afterwards. (Then) we made four bad plays defensively and got ourselves in a hole we couldn’t dig ourselves out of.”
Kansas will now have to win two games on Sunday to advance out of the Louisville region. The Jayhawks will face off with the Kentucky Wildcats at 11 am CST in an elimination game. The game can be viewed on ESPN3. If the Jayhawks can beat Kentucky for the second time in three days, they will play again at 3 pm central (pending any weather delays) vs. Louisville. The winner of that game will move on.
