Rock Chalk Radio is coming… We need your help

Rock Chalk Blog has been around for almost four years now. It’s taken different forms and it’s even gone away at one point. I started it back in 2009 and all I was doing was posting Big 12 power rankings for basketball and football.

It was awful.

Since then, the site has evolved and grown largely in part due to my social media following. We launched the RockChalkBlog.com site back in February of 2013 and I’ve considered it a success. We got to interview LeBron James about Andrew Wiggins, we broke a few stories and I hope we’ve made you laugh, think and hopefully brighten your days.

Next month, we’re launching a radio show. At the moment, we’re unsure what the name will be. It’ll either be “Rock Chalk Radio” or “Phog Talk.”

We’re also launching an IndieGoGo campaign, which is starting today.

IndieGoGo (similar to Kickstarter) is a crowdfunding platform. We’re looking to raise $3,500 in 30 days to properly give the radio show a fighting chance.

As the owner and main contributor of RockChalkBlog.com, I’ve put a lot of money and time into the site. It’s never felt like a full-time job because it’s fun, but I definitely put a lot of time into it to give our readers and social media followers the best experience possible.

We’re launching an IndieGoGo campaign for a couple of reasons:

• We need newer equipment so we can record the radio show.
• We need equipment so our contributors can provide you with better insight into Kansas Jayhawks football, basketball and other sports.
• We need a few site upgrades that costs some money.
• The leftover money will be used for going on road trips to away football and basketball games to give our readers and listeners a better experience.

We’ve set our goal at $3,500 because I believe that’ll provide us with a new computer and microphone to record the show with quality, equipment to get quality audio from press conferences and interviews, a few website upgrades and as mentioned before, any additional money that hasn’t been used will go towards road trips.

Why fund us?

We’ll be the first socially-driven Jayhawk-only radio show.

If you donate just $1 to our campaign, you’ll be given priority access to our “Tweet hotline.” If you tweet us, you’ll be heard on our show (obviously inappropriate comments are subject to be ignored). A lot of radio stations have “text lines.” Our show will have a Tweet hotline. If you don’t have Twitter or you have a longer message to send, we’ll also give you priority access in our email inbox.

Additionally, if our radio show succeeds, it’ll give the blog even greater content. So if you enjoy our blog and you want it to continue, supporting the radio show will allow us to grow. We want the blog and the radio show to be successful.

We just need a little boost.
