Post-Game Awards: West Virginia (Round Two)

Beware of the Blog’s Player of the Game is Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins capped of his first and last regular season as a Jayhawk with his best performance of the year. The freshman solidified his status as a Kansas superstar with a valiant effort in all facets of the game. He finished with a career-high 41 points on 12-18 shooting. He hit 15-of-19 free-throws, and absolutely stuffed the stat sheet with  8 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals, and 4 blocks. It wasn’t enough for the win today, as KU fell to WVU on the road. But, the loss will be worth it if this is what it took for Wiggins to realize that he is practically un-guardable on this level. He can get into the lane at will and his stroke from deep continues to improve. One big problem he has faced this season has been the Big 12 referees letting him get mauled in the lane without calling fouls. I don’t think this will carry on in the post-season, at least not in the NCAA tournament. If he can get to the line when he deserves to, score at a high rate and continue to lock guys down he is dangerous. But, if he can do this while playing with the mindset that is unstoppable? Watch out America.

You let the whole team down everybody else. As far as the rest of the team goes, it seemed like they made about as much of a trip as Joel Embiid. They were awful, especially at the point guard position. Sure Perry has some nice moves inside early, but where did he go for the last 30 minutes? Sure Jamari made some hustle plays late, but where was he in the first half? Sure Mason hit a couple of big threes to keep KU close, but not before he turned the ball over at a critical juncture. And where the heck was Tharpe? I don’t remember him doing a single productive thing for this team today. Why was Conner Frankamp jacking up pull up jumpers? All around, just a terrible team performance. They should all get on their knees and beg Andrew Wiggins for his forgiveness for completely laying an egg and letting him down in a big way. Shame on you guys.
