Jim Harbaugh visits Lawrence, hits half-court shot in Allen Fieldhouse

Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, is visiting Lawrence today, attended KU’s shootaround and is going to KU’s game vs. Texas Tech tonight.

During the shoot-around, Harbaugh hit a half court shot.

Back in December of 2009, Kansas was in serious talks with Harbaugh to become the next head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks. 610 Sports Radio even confirmed it was a done deal. Harbaugh eventually turned the deal down and Turner Gill became the next head coach of the Jayhawks. Harbaugh returned to Stanford for one more season before heading to the NFL. The rest is history.

Harbaugh has ties to the area as his wife, Sarah, grew up in Belton, Missouri. Sarah’s sister, Amy Cain, is the wife of Blue Springs South’s boys basketball coach. Harbaugh attended the Blue Springs South basketball game last night.

Earlier this season, the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers and Super Bowl MVP, Aaron Rodgers, visited Lawrence for the Kansas-Oklahoma State game. Kansas senior forward Tarik Black caught Rodgers’ eye at practice and believes Black, who he called a phenomenal athlete, should play as a tight end in the NFL. Perhaps Harbaugh is scouting Black’s talent?
