Kansas City looks to produce great NCAA games

Every year, teams hold their collective breath as the NCAA selection committee meets to select the seed and playing sites for the 64 best teams in the nation. For many teams, the simple luck of the draw could mean the difference between cross-country trips on a few days rest, or home court advantage just miles from campus.

This year, quite a few draws hold significant promise for a handful of teams. Schools like Georgetown, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Kansas, and Kansas State have benefitted significantly from the seeds bestowed upon them by the committee, and look to ride an implied home court advantage to the Sweet 16.

Although they are in different regions, Kansas and Kansas State have drawn the favorable site of the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. A one seed has never lost in the first round of the tournament, and although overcoming UNC or Villanova could be a somewhat frightening proposition for the Kansas Jayhawks in the Round of 32, they should coast through Kansas City.

Things may not be so easy however, for Kansas State, the four seed in the West. 13v4 upsets are not all that uncommon in recent years, and LaSalle is coming in fresh from knocking off a tough Boise State Broncos team in the first four. Out of all the teams with home court in the first two rounds, Kansas State is likely the most vulnerable, particularly with a likely matchup against Big Ten tough guys Wisconsin in the Round of 32.
