2013 Big 12 Power Poll: Week 7
Big 12 Power Poll:
1. Baylor – Previous Week: 1
Result: Win vs. Kansas State, 35-25
Not sure why Baylor couldn’t score more against K-State. They had several drives where they scored in the first three plays of their drive, all of which included 50+ yard plays. They even had a 93-yard touchdown bomb.
Next week: vs. Iowa State
2. Texas Tech – Previous Week: 3
Result: Win vs. Iowa State, 42-35
Texas Tech keeps winning in different ways. This week, they did it in a slug fest.
Next week: at West Virginia
3. Oklahoma – Previous Week: 2
Result: Loss vs. Texas, 20-36
Strange things happen in the Red River Rivalry and somehow, Mack Brown was able to save his job. Look for the Sooners to take out their frustration against Kansas this week.
Next week: at Kansas
4. Oklahoma State – Previous Week: 4
Result: Bye Week
Not much to say about the Cowboys this week. They must bounce back this week against TCU if they want to remain in the Big 12 hunt.
Next week: vs. TCU
5. TCU – Previous Week: 5
Result: Win vs. Kansas, 27-17
Not an incredibly impressive win by TCU, but a win is a win. They played in front of a dead crowd. Hard to give any credit to TCU for their defensive performance when the KU offense is so anemic.
Next Week: at Oklahoma State
6. Texas – Previous Week: 6
Result: Win vs. Oklahoma, 36-20
Really big win for the Longhorns and Mack Brown.
Next week: Bye Week
7. West Virginia – Previous Week: 7
Result: Bye Week
WVA had the week off. They face an undefeated Red Raider team next week. Good luck wit that.
Next week: vs. Texas Tech
8. Kansas State – Previous Week: 8
Result: Loss vs. Baylor, 25-35
Poor Kansas State. They’re now 0-3 in their Big 12 title defense. Their student section also showed just how classy they are on national TV….
Next week: Bye week
9. Kansas – Previous Week: 9
Previous Week: Loss vs. TCU, 27-17
Another Big 12 game, another Big 12 loss for the Jayhawks. When will the streak end? Probably not next week against the Sooners…
Kansas again got off to a 3-0 lead and then quickly lost it. The Jayhawks really played well on defense but couldn’t do anything offensively. Unfortunately, an offense that doesn’t do much puts too much pressure on the defense. If the Kansas can put together a drive longer than five minutes at a time, the Jayhawks could end up pulling off a win.
It might be time for a new offensive coordinator at Kansas. Charlie Weis is making this team better but his playcalling is very suspect. If you’re going to use James Sims correctly, you also need to use his running ability to help drain the clock. Give your defense a shot at getting some rest and good things will happen.
Next week: vs. Oklahoma
10. Iowa State – Previous Week: 10
Result: Loss vs. Texas Tech, 35-42
The Cyclones are competitive, I’ll give them that. Next week might not be so competitive as they play the Baylor Bears.
