Kansas selected No. 6 in preseason USA Today coaches’ poll

The Kansas Jayhawks enter the 2013-14 season ranked at No. 6 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll released Thursday.

This is the 22nd time in the 25-year history of the coaches’ poll that Kansas has been ranked. This is also the eighth time (out of 11 seasons) in the Bill Self era that Kansas was ranked seventh or higher.

There are four opponents on Kansas’ schedule ranked and six are receiving votes. These teams include:

  • Duke (No. 4)
  • Florida (No. 8)
  • Oklahoma State (No. 12)
  • New Mexico (No. 20)
  • Baylor (No. 26/receiving votes)
  • Colorado (No. 27/receiving votes)
  • Georgetown (No. 31/receiving votes)
  • Villanova (receiving votes)
  • Kansas State (receiving votes),
  • Iowa State (receiving votes)

Kansas’ biggest test comes on November 12th when the Jayhawks face off against No. 4 Duke in the Champions Classic. Also playing in the Champions Classic are No. 1 Kentucky and No. 2 Michigan State.

Last season, Kansas was ranked seventh in this poll and finished eighth with a 31-6 record after losing to Michigan in the NCAA tournament. The previous season, Kansas was ranked No. 13 and finished No. 2.
