Kansas BasketballRecruit Talk

Q&A with 2021 Top 20 Wing Kendall Brown

One of the top targets for Coach Self and the Kansas Jayhawks in the 2021 class is 6’7″ SF Kendall Brown. The talented wing is currently playing at Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita. I have seen Brown play a few times, and there’s not much he struggles with on the basketball court. He has great play-making ability for a wing his size. He has really good handles, is a gifted passer, reads defenses well, and has an ever improving jump shot. Combine all of those with his natural athletic abilities and you can see why he is a top priority for the staff in 2021. I was able to catch up with Kendall Brown to talk to him about his recruitment.

RCB: Currently you’ve said Kansas, Illinois, Minnesota, Arkansas, Maryland, and Marquette are the schools prioritizing you. What stands out about each program?

Brown: With Kansas it’s the fan base, the history, and it’s a great place. Illinois, I like the way the coaches said they would use me. Minnesota, I like everything about them and it’s the home state. Arkansas, I like the direction that their program is going. Maryland, I like the way the coaches said they would use me and the direction the program is going. Marquette, I like everything about them, the relationship with the coaches, and the way they would use me.

RCB: It was reported a while back that you considered Kansas a dream school, did you grow up a KU fan?

Brown: I meant to say I was a fan of Kansas. Kansas was my favorite school when I was in elementary school.

RCB: Do you have a timeline for coming up with a list or are you just going to take your time and worry about it next fall?

Brown: I’m going to take my time and worry about it next fall.

RCB: For you, what is going to be the deciding factor in your decision?

Brown: Definitely the relationship I have with the coaches. Where I could get the best support and which school is going to help get me to the league.

RCB: You recently visited Kansas, how many times have you been on campus?

Brown: It was my second time being there and I really liked it!

RCB: Tell us what kind of player you on the floor and tell us something about yourself that KU fans might not know about you?

Brown: I’m a big guard, very versatile because of my size. I can do pretty much everything. I have really good handles too. Something people don’t know, is that I’m really good at video games.

As stated above, Brown is one of the top targets for Coach Self in the 2021 class. While it is very early in Brown’s recruitment, I really like where the Jayhawks stand. This will definitely be one to watch over the next year, but if I’m Coach Self, I like my chances as of today.
